We will explore various manifestations of interfacial interactions in van der Waals heterostructures to search for exotic ground states, manipulate spin properties or study the impact of screening Coulomb. Systems to explore are state-of-the-art graphene influenced by nearby gates, twisted bilayer graphene and graphene based heterointerfaces with magnetic or topological insulators and possibly also perovskites as second constituent.
We employ primarily magnetotransport down to dilution refrigerator temperatures as well as confocal magnetooptical probes. Atomic force microscopy is used as a tool to release strain fluctuations, thereby enhancing the overall device performance.
