We are interested in the structural and ferromagnetic properties of epitaxially grown vdW heterostructures combining atomically thin 2D ferromagnets (2DFMs) with graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN). A particularly fascinating aspect is the effect of proximity between the dissimilar vdW crystals on 2D ferromagnetism. We will contribute to the research within the priority program by providing large-area samples (such as h-BN films) to various partners for the realization of complex vdW heterostacks with other 2D materials.
For the structural and magnetic characterization a wide range of methods are available, including scanning probe microscopy, in-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Magneto-Raman spectroscopy, magneto-optical, and magneto-transport measurements.
